Close your eyes and imagine this. You’re on the beach and the sun is shining bright. You’re laying on the beach reading your book while your partner and child play in the sand. All is good with the world, until your child starts to get bored and asks you if you can all do something else.

It can be hard to come up with fun thing to do that the whole family will enjoy, especially when under pressure.

As our gift to you, we have developed this ‘Top 10 List’ of our favourite family outings. We have also tried and tested all of these amazing experiences to make sure you will enjoy every moment with your family.

From the bottom of our hearts we really do hope you enjoy our ‘Top 10 List’ of family outings in the Byron Bay region. Enjoy!

10. The Cinema

Palace Cinemas Byron Bay

You might be thinking, we didn’t come all the way to Byron Bay just so we can have a family outing to the cinema. This cinema, however, is different to your average cinema. It has a flair and pizazz that you will only find in Byron Bay.

Palace Cinemas is the perfect place for you and the family to visit after a big day at the beach. It offers a range of food and drink at a very competitive price so you can rehydrate and fuel up ready for another day at the beach. Better yet, find someone to mind the kids and have a movie date night. The venue offers a fully functioning bar and they even allow you to take your drinks into the movie. Win-win, right?

9. Newrybar Merchants Miniature Village Kids Space

So this one is an absolute winner for everyone. The parents love it because here has some wonderful shopping on offer and the children love it because it has been designed purely for their enjoyment. With this ‘mini village’ offering music singalong sessions and story time, the children will be entertained for hours while you indulge in a little bit of retail therapy. Just make sure to visit their website to see what is offered and when.

8. The Harvest Collective

Right across the road from the Newrybar Merchants ‘miniature village’ you will find the Harvest Collective offering up some of the best dining experiences in the area. The beauty of Harvest is that it has everything you and your family could want from your food. It is wholesome, it is delicious, it is locally sourced and it is reasonably priced. If you don’t feel like a sit down meal, head right next door (also part of the Harvest Collective) to the deli and/or bakery and get yourself a snack for on the go.

7. Zephyr Horse Riding

Zephyr Horses Byron Bay

Horse riding along the beach on a beautiful sunny day? Yes please! Everything about this experience screams perfection. Plus you can organise a professional to come and document the entire experience for you (and your Instagram friends). Jump on across to Zephyr Horses Byron Bay to have a look at the range of prices and experiences they offer.

6. Macadamia Castle

The Macadamia Castle is an iconic landmark in the Byron Bay region. Ask any local about it and they will be able to give you a story of some family (or solo) outing they have had there. Whether they are our age, older, or younger, they are sure to have visited at least once.

There are a range of activities that are offered for the kids such as the animal fun park, animal shows, mini golf, face painting and train rides. Best of all, after a busy day of keeping the kids entertained, you get to take home a bunch of succulent macadamias to snack on for a post-dinner snack. It really is a no brainer with this one.

5. Circus Arts

Let’s be honest. We have all thought about running away to join the circus at some point during our childhood. Did we commit to it? No. Do we still think about it, occasionally after a tough day at work? Mhmm.

Circus Arts Australia is about as close to fulfilling this dream as most of us will ever come. The beauty of this though is you can all experience it as a family. It is also arguably the absolute best thing to do on a rainy day. Jump across to their social media to have a look at all the experiences and events they have to offer. It’s well worth the time.

4. The Farm

Much like the Macadamia Castle, The Farm has become somewhat of a modern Byron Bay icon. It has something for everyone. Delicious coffee and wholesome food for the parents and mini farmer workshops for the kids. The beauty of it all? Once you’re done you can have a walk around the farm as a family all by yourself and check out what’s going on. We recommend going and checking out the pigs and the cows. They are adorable and have quite the personality.

3. Family Photo Shoot

It’s not every day you get to visit one of Australia’s most iconic and beautiful towns with your family. We recommend catching that special moment with a professional photo shoot around some of Byron’s most iconic landmarks. Did I hear someone say lighthouse?

You can take two paths here. Either choose your own landscapes like Broken Head headland or the ti tree lake or trust your local professional photographer with their knowledge of the best places to get a good snap in the area.

There is an endless supply of incredible photographers you can find in Byron Bay with a simple click of a button. One we love and highly recommend is Lauren Phillips.

2. A day at the Beach

Alright! We know that we started this article with you escaping the beach. We’re sorry. But we simply cannot give you a ‘Top 10 List’ of the best family outings in Byron Bay without mentioning hitting up some of the best coastal spots Australia has to offer.

King's Beach
King’s Beach

You’ve got Broken Head right on your doorstep. King’s beach just a short walk around the headland. The infamous Wategos just a short drive. A soul nourishing ti tea lake that literally washes down into the ocean just a 10 minute walk from your home. You name it, Byron has it. All we know is with all these amazing beaches so close, you’re bound to have a swell (excuse the pun) time.

1. Hiking The Hinterland

We know. We’re just as shocked as you. The beach didn’t win our ‘Top 10 List’. Have a day of hiking the region’s gorgeous hinterland though and you will see just why it is the top family outing for your stay in Byron Bay.

The area really does have everything. It’s got rugged mountain landscape. It’s got enormous waterfalls. It’s got breath taking scenery. The one thing it doesn’t have (just yet), is you.

Throw on your joggers, pack your family into the car and prepare yourself for the best nature experience the region has to offer. Enjoy!

Most beautiful, luxurious place we have ever stayed! It had all of the things that we enjoyed such as bikes, yoga mats and chairs to relax in on the deck that overlooked the gorgeous gardens. I would not hesitate to recommend this place to a friend and I will be staying here again in the future for a lovely getaway.

We really enjoyed our stay it was awesome!! Close proximity to the beach and the house itself was beyond belief!!

From the moment we opened the door we were greeted with beautiful high ceilings, stunning timber floors and an AMAZING lush tropical garden where you could hear the waves crashing on the shore. This property is truly magical…

The property is of excellent quality and presented in immaculate condition. The wildlife is wonderful and there are beautiful walking tracks through the national park practically right at your back door.

A definite highlight was the ability to open up the doors off the studio and enjoy the natural surroundings including the sound of the ocean with the beach being a minute away! We absolutely loved every minute of our stay and found that the location was perfect…

We enjoyed so many things…. but an absolute highlight was watching the dolphins and whales from the lookout off broken head ….a gorgeous walk!!

…Above all it’s the serenity that sets this place apart as it’s seems to be engulfed but it’s own private rain forest.
